Australian Bauxite Focuses On 2018 Global Market
Feb 23, 2018

February 9, the Australian bauxite is expected to 2018 total value of exports will reach 30 million U.S. dollars in 2017, the Australian bauxite total exports of 24 million tons, this year is expected to reduce the export of bauxite To 21 million tons.

In a report, the Australian Department of Industrial Innovation and Science (DIIS) predicted in a report that from the 2017-2018 fiscal year to the 2021-2022 fiscal year, Australian bauxite exports (tons) will grow at an annual rate of 3.4%. However, with the rise of potential rival Guinea, bauxite exports in Australia are likely to grow at a slower pace in the medium term.

Currently, Australia is undergoing a series of bauxite mining projects, which will bring optimistic prospects for the export of bauxite in Australia.

Rio Tinto's bauxite performance in the Gove and Webber regions was strong in 2017; production of Gove bauxite increased by 23% compared with 2016 production; Weber bauxite production was 5% higher than 2016 %. In the fourth quarter of 2017, bauxite production was 13.8 million tonnes, an increase of 14% over the same period in 2016. Rio Tinto sold 32.3 million tonnes of bauxite last year due to its good production performance.

The Amrun bauxite project is also on schedule. The project will produce the first bauxite in the first half of 2019.

Alcoa owns Huntly Mine, the world's second largest bauxite mine and the company also owns Willowdale bauxite in the same area; in 2017, the two bauxites produced 45.8 million tonnes of bauxite in total, up from 2016 At a production level of 45 million tonnes, Alcoa produced 47.7 million tonnes of bauxite in 2017, up from 46.9 million tonnes in 2016. Its third-party sales volume also increased from 31.5 million tons in 2016 to 33.3 million tons in 2017.

All the projects mentioned above will contribute to the export of Australian bauxite and prepare for a competitive 2018 global market.

However, figures released by China Customs show that Australia exported 25.4 million tonnes of bauxite to China in FY17, up 19.6% from the same period of last year while Guinea exported 27.6 million tonnes of bauxite to China over the same period Australian exports.
