Foreign media on March 6 news: Malaysia has extended the bauxite mining ban, because it is still dealing with the inventory has not been cleared, although the country has ceased mining activities for more than two years.

The ban was implemented in January 2016. Many unlicensed miners previously mined large quantities of ore, causing the eastern Pahang rivers and coasts to become red, causing water pollution.

Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, said that the ban was extended until June 30th to allow the government time to finalize the regulatory framework to avoid recurrence of environmental destruction.

At a press conference outside the parliament, he said: "When everything is ready, we will consider how to implement it. We do not want to ban mining, but we must abide by the best methods of mining."

Wan Junaidi said that an estimated 10 million tons of bauxite still needs to be cleared.
